First things first, you should never try to fix something you don’t know how to fix yourself. Breaking the tubing in your fridge by prying open, puncturing, or cutting it can result in a leak. Scraping ice out of the freezer is also a poor idea because it might harm the fridge if done wrong.

A leak could also occur if you place a pressure gauge on the tube incorrectly, causing the seal to break. This could be the source of the problem.

Apart from this, we have mentioned some tips that may prevent Freon leaks in refrigerants.

  • Fill Holes or Cracks: If you see a hole or even a crack around your unit or inside it while cleaning, you should fix it as soon as possible. Even if it feels harmless to you. Since this can cause many problems in the future, it is better to get it closed at the initial stage.
  • Replace Cracked Coils: Consider replacing the coils that are cracked. These cracks store the Freon gas and later contribute to its leakage.
  • Recharge AC Refrigerant/ Freon: In order to prevent Freon leakage in your refrigerant, it is advised to frequently recharge the AC refrigerant of your unit.

Some HVAC service specialists may recommend merely recharging the unit’s refrigerant, but this is only a band-aid solution. Recharging Freon in a leaking unit will almost certainly wind up costing you more money in the long run.

Overall, the greatest recommendation is to schedule monthly AC maintenance check-ups with your expert if you actually want to prevent the trouble of dealing with Freon leaks and their consequences.
